{"id":429,"date":"2024-08-15T15:29:00","date_gmt":"2024-08-15T14:29:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/template1.bravonetworks.co.uk\/?p=429"},"modified":"2024-08-15T15:29:00","modified_gmt":"2024-08-15T14:29:00","slug":"what-you-need-to-know-about-the-changes-to-paternity-leave","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/template1.bravonetworks.co.uk\/?p=429","title":{"rendered":"What you need to know about the changes to paternity leave."},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>On Friday, 8 March 2024, new legislation on statutory paternity came into force as part of the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.legislation.gov.uk\/ukdsi\/2024\/9780348256116\">Paternity Leave (Amendment) Regulations 2024<\/a>. The new regulations within England, Scotland and Wales apply to parents of children born or adopted on or after 6 April 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As part of this legislation, four key changes were made, which we have summarised below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What are the new paternity rules?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Duration of paternity leave<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Previous law: Employees had to request paternity leave as a consecutive block. They could take either one week or two weeks.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>New law: As part of the new rules, employees can request two separate one-week blocks of leave that do not have to be consecutive.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>When paternity leave can be taken<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Previous law: Employees had to take paternity leave within 56 days (eight weeks) of the date of birth or date of adoption of the child.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>New law: From 8 March 2024, employees can take paternity leave at any time within a year of the child\u2019s birth or adoption.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Requesting paternity leave<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Previous law: Employees had to give 15 weeks\u2019 notice to take paternity leave.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>New law: Employees must notify their employer of their intention to take paternity leave with 28 days\u2019 notice.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Statutory pay<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Previous law: New fathers currently receive a rate of \u00a3172.48 per week for statutory paternity leave.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>New law: Statutory paternity pay will increase on April 2024 to \u00a3184.03 per week (\u00a311.55 more per week).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On Friday, 8 March 2024, new legislation on statutory paternity came into force as part of the&nbsp;Paternity Leave (Amendment) Regulations 2024.
